Dawn Crothers

With her quirky, colourful art instantly recognisable, Dawn Crothers is inspired by the vibrancy of nature and everyday life, her paintings portraying the world with an imaginative artistic twist…

Dawn’s preferred medium is oil on canvas, although this can change, depending on the specific subject at hand, with various other techniques used from time-to-time, such as charcoal sketching before applying paint to canvas.

With a love of animals and the natural world, these are key themes in Dawn’s work – from her infamous ‘Snail’, ‘Animal Kingdom’, ‘Puffin’ and ‘Bird’ collections, to her ‘Tree’ and ‘Children’s Room’ paintings. Meanwhile, her kaleidoscopic ‘Staycation’ pieces are inspired by an appreciation of the local beauty spots we treasured even more over the pandemic – special locations which evoke both joy and nostalgia for many people.

Artistic style

Inspired by the Russian-French artist, Marc Chagall, who incorporated many modernist influences within his work, Dawn’s own paintings reflect this poetic, figurative style. Her art subsequently combines colour and texture to create detailed paintings with depth and character, which always reveal more of their secrets the longer you look at them.

Since her first sell-out exhibition back in 2008, Dawn’s work has only grown in popularity, with her art snapped up by private collectors, both locally and around the world.
