Desmond Monroe
Desmond Monroe. Born in 1943, Desmond has always had an interest in drawing and started painting in 1964. He attended art classes for several years at Newtownabbey Technical College and has been a past Chairman of Glengormley and Carrickfergus Art Clubs. Due to the high interest in his work he turned professional in 1993. He presently teaches art at Downshire School, Carrickfergus, and gives demonstrations of painting at most local art clubs. There is a calm and peace about Desmond�s paintings and he has attained an uncanny ability to capture the everchanging moods of our Irish landscape, whether in the Mournes, Connemara, Donegal or the Antrim Coast. Desmond has held the following exhibitions to date: Gillen Gallery, Newtownards ~ Solo Ormonde Gallery, Belfast ~ Solo Higgins Gallery, Belfast ~ Solo Country Gallery, Ballyclare ~ Solo Comber Gallery, Comber ~ Solo Arches Gallery, Belfast ~ Solo Belfast Castle ~ Group Royal Ulster Academy ~ Group In 1995, Desmond was among the Morton Newspaper Award winners in a province wide art competition. Some of his work is in the private collections of Wiggans Teape and the Department of the Environment and his paintings can be found in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, the United States of America and Kenya.
